Frequently Asked Questions
Planning a heavy vehicle modification or need an LT400 inspection? Contact Ben at Alpine Mechanical today.-
Alpine Mechanical provides NZTA-appointed Heavy Vehicle Specialist Certification (HVSC) across Central Otago, Queenstown Lakes, and Southern Lakes. We issue LT400 certifications for chassis modifications, towbars, drawbars, drawbeams, load anchorage, crane installations, tail lifts, and custom truck body mountings.
-
Yes. While based in Wānaka, we routinely conduct on-site physical inspections across the region—including Queenstown, Cromwell, Alexandra, and surrounding areas—or work directly with local engineering workshops carrying out the build or modification.
We can also travel to Arrowtown, Omarama, Haast, Te Anau, Winton, Gore, Greymouth, Hokitika, Timaru, Temuka, Waimate, Oamaru, Dunedin, Mosgiel, Balclutha, Omakau and Ranfurly.
-
If your heavy transport vehicle or trailer failed a CoF check due to a structural component, modified tow coupling, or chassis crack repair, we assess the required repair procedure, verify the welding and design compliance, and issue the necessary LT400 documentation to get your vehicle re-certified.
-
The process starts with an on-site physical inspection of the vehicle or component then design, drawings and structural calculations before fabrication begins. Once built according to specification, we perform a physical inspection and issue the LT400 certification for registration or CoF compliance.
-
Yes. Beyond certification, Alpine Mechanical specializes in mechanical engineering design for heavy transport, plant and specialized machinery. We produce full CAD models, engineering drawings, and structural calculations tailored to your operating requirements.
-
Absolutely. Partnering with us early in the design stage ensures your proposed chassis, tow coupling, or body design meets all relevant NZTA standards (such as NZS 5446 or NZS 5467) before fabrication starts, avoiding costly rework during the final inspection.
